The over 6,000 patients of Memorial Hermann Health System whose information was leaked because of a technological security breach are being assured the information hasn’t been misused and are being given a way to get more information.

Advent Health Partners, Inc., a contracted vendor with the health system, announced on Feb. 8 it had a security incident resulting in the breach of approximately 6,260 Memorial Hermann patients, a press release said. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Advent Health Partners provides medical record review technology and related services, its website said.

Suspicious activity was noted in regards to Memorial Hermann’s data in September 2021. An unauthorized third party accessed files that included patients’ names, birth dates, social security numbers and financial information. The investigation continues.

“It’s important to note that, to date, there is no indication that anyone’s information has been subject to actual or attempted misuse in relation to this incident,” the press release said.

However, patients who may have been affected will receive letters from Advent Health Partners offering them “free access to a credit monitoring service,” the press release said.

People wanting more information can call Advent Health Partners at 1 (855) 604-1735.

“At Memorial Hermann, protecting and securing patient privacy and information is a top priority and the system deeply regrets any inconvenience this incident involving one of its business associates may have caused its patients,” the press release said. “Memorial Hermann is working with Advent Health Partners to ensure the company is taking appropriate steps to minimize the risk of a similar event happening in the future.”

Founded in 2010, Advent Health Partners was recognized in 2021 on the Inc. 5000 annual list, which ranks the country’s fastest-growing private companies, its website said.

The not-for-profit Memorial Hermann has 16 hospitals and several specialty programs and services in the Greater Houston area, its Facebook page said.
