MCR has announced that it has purchased the Aloft Houston Downtown hotel, which is the company’s 38th hotel in Texas.
According to a report by hospitalitynet.org, MCR is the fourth-largest hotel owner-operator with a $4 billion portfolio with 140 hotels. The Aloft Houston Downtown has 168 rooms and stands at 11 stories in downtown Houston at 802 Fannin St. As of Jan. 1, 2021, it was valued at about $12 million. According to Houston Business Journal, the hotel was formerly known as the Stowers Building and is part of the National Register of Historic Places. It was converted into a hotel, and then reopened in 2016 by Trend Hospitality LP.
Houston First Corp. President and CEO Michael Heckman said that this is a positive aspect for the city’s hospitality industry.
“We exceeded our hotel-occupancy tax budget for the year, which is something many analysts said wouldn’t happen for another five years,” Heckman said to Houston Business Journal. “We’re very bullish, not only on travel coming back but on conventions, as well.”
The Aloft Houston Downtown is a Marriott hotel with 3,719 square feet of event space across five meeting rooms, to go along with 168 rooms and suites, according to hospitalitynet.org. There are also two bars, including one in the lobby and another on the roof. There is lobby lounge, a grab-and-go market with snacks and beverages, an outdoor pool, fitness center and free Wi-Fi internet. The hotel has a 24-hour business center and laundry facilities, along with valet parking.
MCR was founded in 2006 and has 20,000 guest rooms in its 140 hotels across the country, spanning 37 states and 100 cities. The company has offices in New York City, Dallas, Chicago and Richmond, Virginia. It is a three-time winner of the Marriott Partnership Circle Award, which is the highest honor Marriott gives to its owner and franchise partners. It has also won the Hilton Legacy Award.
