On Dec. 28, 2021, the Houston Cougars took the Birmingham Bowl after defeating the Auburn Tigers 17-13.
“Heck of a day, Coogs,” the University of Houston Football tweeted.
“The No. 20 Cougars led for much of the game until Auburn seized the lead on a T.J. Finley touchdown pass to Kobe Hudson late in the third quarter. However, Houston had a short-term memory and found its way back to the driver’s seat to eventually win the game,” Click 2 Houston reported.
Clayton Tune earned the team’s MVP honors after throwing a 26-yard touchdown to Jake Herslow and finishing with 283 passing yards, an interception and two touchdowns.
The Birmingham Bowl put a swift end to the Houston school’s four-game losing streak in bowl play.
