Greater Houston Partnership has issued the following press release:
Metro Houston added 33,100 jobs in November, according to data released today by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). That ranks as the best November for job growth of the past 30 years.
The fall has been particularly strong in Houston, with gains for September, October, and November totaling 79,200 jobs. That’s the fastest pace of job growth over any three-month period in records dating back to January ’90.
The region has now recouped 297,500 of the 361,400 jobs lost in March and April of ’20. All but a handful of sectors have recouped all, or nearly all, of their pandemic losses.
Eight sectors have fully recovered all the jobs lost in the pandemic: administrative support, educational services, finance and insurance, health care and social assistance, other services, professional, scientific, and technical services, retail trade, and transportation, warehousing, and utilities. Restaurants and bars have nearly recovered. The remaining sectors continue to struggle.
’21 is already the best year on record for job creation. Through November, the region has added 132,600 jobs. The previous record was 1981 when Houston created 126,900 jobs.
