Houston Texans All Pro wide receiver Andre Johnson was the best in the history of the franchise, and one who was there during its formative years. Now he will get to see how he stacks up with the all-time greats, as he has been named a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, according to SI.com's Texas Daily.
According to Pro Football Reference, Johnson was the third overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. He played 12 seasons at Houston, earning a pair of first-team All Pro nods (2008, 2009) and seven Pro Bowls. He led the league in receiving yards in 2008 and 2009, and also led the league in receptions 2006 and 2008. He is a member of the Texans' "Ring of Honor."
“Congratulations to #Texans Legend Andre Johnson on being selected as a Pro Football Hall of Fame Semifinalist,” the Houston Texans tweeted.
Johnson eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark seven times and barely missed the mark in two other seasons. He had more than 100 catches on five occasions, with his best year coming in 2008 where he had 115 catches for 1,575 yards and eight touchdowns. Johnson also led the league in yards per game three times and yards per touch three times.
He leads the Texans all time with 1,012 catches for 13,597 yards and 64 touchdowns.
After his time with Texans ended, he played with the Indianapolis Colts and the Tennessee Titans in the final two years of his career.
Johnson has a career total of 1,062 catches, 14,185 yards and 70 touchdowns.
According to SI.com's Texas Daily, Johnson is among 26 semifinalists vying for membership in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2022. Fellow Miami Hurricane teammate Vince Wilfork, who played on the Patriots and the Texans, is also part of this group. The 40-year-old Johnson is a first-time semifinalist, along with Anquan Boldin, Steve Smith, DeMarcus Ware and Devin Hester.
The 15 NFL Hall of Fame finalists will be named in December.
