Two former Houston-area high school stars figured prominently in Texas A&M’s 52-3 non-conference victory over Prairie View on Nov. 20.

Sophomore running back Devon Achane, who enjoyed a stellar multi-sport career at Fort Bend Marshall, and his junior comrade in the backfield, Klein Collins product Isaiah Spiller, proved virtually unstoppable against the Panthers defense.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher expressed little to no surprise regarding the tandem’s efforts.

“Our guys went out and played well and did what we were supposed to do," Fisher told Click2Houston.

Achane and Spiller helped the Aggies fire off on all cylinders in the first half, combining for three touchdowns before halftime, Houston’s NBC affiliate reported.

The duo, who are among the SEC’s top 10 rushers this season with Achane also the team leader in the category, accounted for 115 rushing yards in the first two quarters before bowing out after the half.

Three other Aggies – Amari Daniels, L.J. Johnson Jr., and Yulkeith Brown – also chipped in double-digit yardage on the ground.

Sophomore signal-caller Zach Calzada threw for 150 yards on 10-for-14 passing, connecting with Moose Muhammad III for two scores.

Muhammad, a freshman from North Carolina and the son of former NFL wideout Muhsin II, caught five passes for 77 yards.

“He went out in that environment and played tremendously," Fisher said, Click2Houston reported. “He did a great job."

The victory over Prairie View, which is 50 miles south of Aggieland, is the final game at Kyle Field for the season and a much-needed one after the team suffered a 29-19 loss to Ole Miss the week before.

No. 16 Texas A&M had enjoyed a four-game winning streak that began after the Aggies’ stunning upset of defending national champion Alabama.

The Aggies conclude the 2021 season with one last SEC battle against LSU in Baton Rouge on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
