As per the American Athletic Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll, the University of Houston's Men's Basketball program has grabbed the "preseason favorite" position for the third time in a row.

"The Cougars received eight first-place votes from the league's head coaches, totaling 98 points. Houston finished six points ahead of Memphis, which received the remaining three first-place votes," a press release reported.

The league's Rookie of the Year went to Memphis freshman Jalen Duren whereas the Preseason Player of the Year was Tyson Etienne.

"Houston tied with Memphis as the No. 1 team in Preseason Poll a year ago," according to the official website.

Marcus Sasser has been named to the Preseason First Team.

"Sasser was a leader on the Cougars' 2020-21 team, which posted a 28-4 overall record, captured the American Athletic Conference Tournament title and advance to the NCAA Final Four for the sixth time in school history and the first time in nearly 40 years," according to the official website.

Along with the favorable forecast, Cougars junior guard Jason Sasser landed on the Preseason All-Conference Team.

Fresh from last year's Final Four run, the program returns seven lettermen and two starters.

The non-conference schedule of the Cougars was released in August.
