Houston Texans wide receiver Chris Moore is quickly making a lasting impression on team officials.
Moore was recently promoted from the practice squad to the active roster after turning in a five catch, 109 yards performance against the New England Patriots in the Texans 25-22 loss that included a 67-yard acrobatic touchdown grab at NRG Stadium.
“He played phenomenal, obviously stepped up,” quarterback David Mills told SI.com. “Had that huge catch in the first half. That was a big play. Kind of got the momentum rolling and made some other big-time catches and blocks throughout the game.”
Prior to his coming out party against the Patriots, the six-year veteran hadn’t recorded a reception this season and was primarily viewed as a special-teams contributor. A fourth-round pick in 2016, Moore had never recorded more than three catches in a game before Sunday and last scored a touchdown in 2018.
“Just won my matchups,” Moore said. "Offensive coordinator Tim Kelly called some great plays that gave me the opportunity to make some great plays.”
Still, Moore left the field wanting more.
“On one note, you are happy for yourself, but this is a team game,” he added. “So, all them stats, all that stuff doesn’t really matter because we still took the L.”
Moore signed with the Texans in March, following head coach David Culley, who had been his position coach for the last two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.
