The Houston Texans didn't win in game five against the New England Patriots. But for quarterback Davis Mills, it was a sort of redemption coming off a poor performance against the Buffalo Bills the week before.
Mills' play against New England actually won him accolades from teammates.
“That guy’s a tough guy, man," tight end Antony Auclair told Texans Wire. "That loss in Buffalo was a tough loss. He always stayed calm, and I think you don’t see that from a regular guy. Coming off that bad loss and then coming out firing in that first quarter. I think he played great.”
The Texans lost to the Bills 40-0 in week four. Mills, a rookie quarterback completed only 11 out of 21 passes for 87 yards and he threw four interceptions, the story said. It was the worst loss in the history of the franchise.
Mills bounced back against New England, completing 21 of 29 passes for 312 yard and three touchdowns. Even though the Texans lost 25-22, Mills became the only rookie quarterback to pass for more than 300 yards and three touchdown against the Patriots during Bill Belichick's tenure as the Patriots' coach, CBS posted on Twitter.
“If you look around in the NFL with all those first-rounder quarterbacks that are starting right now, they don’t have that many wins,” Auclair told Texans Wire. “I think Davis is doing a great job right now for us, and he’s only getting better. I think the communication amongst the offense got better last week, and that’s part of it. And also, confidence-wise, Davis, I thought he was very confident in that game. He played well.”
The Texans play the Indianapolis Colts Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium where they will be looking for their first win of the season.
