Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa responded to an opposing player's insinuation that the team may have been cheating. The remarks were from Chicago White Sox reliever Ryan Tepera and mentioned the Astros' 2017 sign-stealing scandal, USA Today reported.
"He said what he said," Correa said in an interview, the story said. "I encouraged other players that when you're going to talk (expletive) about other teams, just state facts. If you don't state facts, then you lose credibility in this game. It's unfortunate that he had to say those words because we came out here hungry. We showed up."
In 2017, Houston was caught using a system to tip off batters when off-speed pitches were about to be thrown, USA Today reported.
While the only White Sox victory of the series was at Chicago's Guaranteed Rate Field, the Astros scored 10 runs at the Chicago park compared to only one run by the White Sox, a huge victory which USA Today said poked holes in Tepera's allegations.
Correa called Tepera's comments "disrespectful" in a separate interview.
This will be Houston's fifth consecutive American League Chapionship series, with first game scheduled for Oct. 15 in Houston, USA Today reported.
