Houston Astros rookie outfielder Jose Siri is reveling in being in the place where he’s always thought he belongs.

After waiting eight years to get his shot in the big leagues, Siri put on a show everyone is taking notice of, belting a pair of homers and driving in five runs to become the first player in history to post such impressive numbers in his first MLB start, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

“Everybody was happy for him,” manager Dusty Baker told MLB.com. “Whenever a guy gets an opportunity like that – I have been wanting to start him earlier, but the situation wasn’t right – it was right tonight. He had a tremendous night. That is a night to remember for the rest of your life.”

On the night and in just his sixth big league game overall in the Astros’ 15-1 romp over the Rangers at at Globe Life Field, Siri went 4 for 5.

Siri, who was once a highly regarded prospect in the Cincinnati Reds farm system, figures to have more chances with regular starter Michael Brantley still plagued by right knee soreness.

“The key to all that was just to never give up, to keep working, keep believing in myself,” Siri said.

Siri played in 94 games for Triple-A Sugar Land this season, slashing .318/.369/.552.
