Katy Paetow football coach William Gotte has been tabbed the Houston Texans’ Coach of the Week honoree.

"The Houston Texans presented athletic director and football coach William Gotte with the Coach of the Week Award,” the school tweeted. “Coach Gotte received a commemorative certificate and a grant for the football program. Way to go, Coach Gotte.”

In bagging the award, Gotte also received a $2,500 grant to be applied to the football program. The Texans surprised Gotte with the award during the start of a recent practice.

With a coaching career that spans more than two decades, Gotte has been with the Panthers since they started in 2017.

"My passion is football, but my purpose is positive influence,” Gotte told KatyMagazineOnline.com. “Competitive success is great, but at this stage in my career, I get just as much or more gratification from stories I have with former players. They credit our impact on them for their success as fathers, husbands, business owners or community leaders."

Before Paetow taking over at Katy Petow, Gotte served as an assistant with the Katy High School Tigers, aiding the team to titles in 2012 and 2015 as the offensive coordinator.

"Coaching is all about the X's and O's,” Gotte said. “Success in the game is achieved through individual actions or performances," said Gotte, who has also coached at Deer Park, La Marque and Flower Mound Marcus High Schools.

With the Panthers off to a perfect 4-0 season, Gotte stresses he’s just happy to see his players able to get back to doing what they love.

Gotte said he’s thrilled to see a more “normal” football season this year. He added he sees the Panthers’ strengths as their discipline, physical nature and strong senior leadership.

The Houston Texans (presented by Houston Methodist) recognize a high school football coach each week during season, with the winner named based on their positive impact on student athletes, their community and football program.
