The Baytown Sterling football team is reveling in the change of pace.

For the first time since the 2016 season, the Rangers are off to a sterling start to the season.

“Big win tonight,” the school posted on Twitter. “Brings our record to 3-1, and 1-0 in district.”

Much of what Sterling is able to accomplish revolves around star defender Noah Lister, who insists he’s still pushing for more.

"Individually, I had a solid season becoming a captain, leading my team in three different stat categories and earning first-team, all-district,” Lister recently told Click2Houston.com. “But I look forward to being even better this year."

Lister comes off a season where he registered 47 tackles (22 solo), 16 tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles. This season, he’s penciled in to play both end and tackle.

"I've tried to become more versatile,” he said. "I had to work on getting faster and securing more tackles, I missed a few my junior year."

Lister hopes to make his next stop from Sterling a college campus, where he plans on earning a degree in business and "see where life takes him."

While wanting to be remembered for his exploits at Sterling, he insists he knows there’s more to the game.

"I hope people remember me as a great football player but an even better student," he said. “A person who treated everybody with kindness and respect; a person who always put his education first. And a guy who put his all into everything he did."
