The Houston Texans have signed The Woodlands and Texas Tech alum Danny Amendola to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million.
The deal brings the 35-year-old Amendola back to his old stomping grounds, as well as reunites him with Texans general manager Nick Caserio, who held the same position with the New England Patriots when the former played for them last decade.
“He’s happy to be coming home,” Erik Burkhardt, Amendola’s agent, told the Houston Chronicle.
A 12-year NFL veteran and two-time Super Bowl champion, Amendola is expected to help shore up the Texans receiving corps at the slot position, as well as provide veteran leadership.
The Houston Chronicle reported that Amendola, whose best known for his time with the Patriots as one of Tom Brady's go-to targets, came to Houston from Detroit, he logged two seasons with the Lions under Matt Patricia, another ex-Patriots figure.
CBS Sports reported that Amendola caught 108 passes for 1,280 yards and one touchdown while in Detroit, but it was in Foxborough where he enjoyed the most success to the tune of 230 receptions for 2,383 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Aside from the Patriots and the Lions, Amendola has suited up for the Miami Dolphins and the then-St. Louis Rams, with appearances on the Dallas Cowboys’ and Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squads during the beginning of his pro career.
