Fort Bend Christian Academy senior outside hitter Bailey Hanner landed on the ALL-VYPE Private School Volleyball squad.

Vype Houston reported that Hanner, a Texas State commit, and teammate Avery Hodges are the Lady Eagles’ representatives on the list.

Hanner’s journey to becoming one of the Houston area’s top private school volleyball players began before she enrolled in high school.

Houston Skyline’s top team invited Hanner to travel with it to Nationals, an opportunity she said opened her eyes.

"It was after our warm-ups when I saw a college coach hand my coach his card," she told VYPE. "They asked him to give it to me. It was from Duke. I realized right then that this sport was going to take me somewhere."

The website reported that a dislike for basketball led Hanner’s parents to put her on a different type of court.

Hanner admitted to hating volleyball at first, but eventually stuck with the sport.

She made the varsity roster after the start of her ninth grade year at FBCA, then the lone rookie on a team with 11 seniors.

"It was kind of scary, but looking back, it's been the most fun I've ever had playing volleyball. It challenged me," she told VYPE.

The challenge molded her into more efficient, experienced player.

Heading into her fourth and final year with FBCA, Hanner has an array of honors to her name. Rice, Wake Forest and Maryland originally peaked her interest until she decided to commit to studying and playing in San Marcos.
