In a move that would likely draw comparisons between him and Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans, Fort Bend Marshall senior wideout Chris Marshall’s transition from basketball to football last year was a seamless one.
Marshall as a junior showed the reigning district champion Buffaloes that he can be a key cog in their well-oiled offense, and he is to figure prominently in the air attack of a program that's a lock to rule District 11-5A once more.
"Comin' different this year," Marshall tweeted earlier this month.
The Houston Chronicle described FB Marshall as a “fast and physical” team, pointing out the Buffs’ penchant for keeping the scoreboard moving even when it looks like that the game is already theirs to win.
Marshall, who stands at 6 foot 4 inches, contributed to the Buffs’ scoring onslaught in which they outscored the opposition 654-99, including 501-20 over its eight district opponents in 2020.
No one could blame FB Marshall coach James Williams, who led the Buffs to three consecutive regional final berths, for feeling confident about his current squad.
“We feel good about the season,” he told the Houston Chronicle. “Our culture now is that the kids are hungry to win. We’re determined to get it done.”
The fact it was his first time playing competitive football after many years toiling on the hardwood didn't stop Marshall from taking home district offensive player of the year honors.
Together with running mate Jaydon Johnson, Marshall makes life easy for quarterback Ja’Koby Banks as one of the best receiving duos in the nation.
The website 247Sports reported that Marshall is being courted by Texas A&M, USC and Alabama, among others, with the Aggies appearing to be the favorite to secure a pledge from the multi-sport athlete.
