Any college scouts and university recruiters at Galena Park North Shore High School home football games this fall will probably be there to check out – and vie for the attention of – Mustangs senior cornerback Denver Harris.
Harris is the player to see, a football influencer said in a recent Twitter post.
"With the news of Quinn Ewers reclassifying to the 2021 class, we have a new No. 1 player in the state in the 2022 class: Galena Park North Shore five-star CB Denver Harris," Nick Harris (no apparent relation) said in an Aug. 2 Twitter post.
Nick Harris is a broadcaster, reporter, creator, writer, freelancer and football and basketball recruiting analyst.
Denver Harris, 6 foot 1 inches and weighing 180 pounds, is essentially the best high school defensive back in the nation and a standout football player in a state that is itself a standout in the sport.
Texas is top in the country "by a wide margin" thanks to nine five-star recruits with Denver Harris leading that list, MaxPreps reported Wednesday, Aug. 11. Denver Harris, as well as No. 2 prospect Bowie (Arlington) interior offensive lineman Devon Campbell and No. 3 Cy Park (Cypress) linebacker Harold Perkins, has yet to make a college commitment, MaxPreps reported.
In the state, Denver Harris ranks No. 2 and No. 1 in his position, according to TexasFootball.com
Denver Harris is the nation's third-ranked cornerback, ranks as No. 9 recruit overall in the nation and he's been to the Detroit Lions' Jeff Okudah of the Detroit Lions. He also is MaxPreps' first-team Junior All-American who was a sophomore when he led North Shore to a state title and the 6A-1 semifinals in 2020, earning him the title of District Defensive Player of the Year. Harris has had at least 38 offers and has made official visits to universities in Alabama, Louisiana and Texas.
Denver Harris suffered a knee injury but is expected to be cleared for play before the season begins.
The Texas series opens play on Aug. 27.
