A Houston high school senior, who is considered one of the nation's premier defensive backs and will be playing football in Florida next year, said in a recent social media post that he's feeling "blessed" these days.
The 6-foot-1-inch, 185-pound Clear Lake High School senior cornerback Julian "Julio" Humphrey, rated No. 16 cornerback and the No. 135 overall recruit in the nation in the country on 247Sports composite rankings.
"Blessed to be a part of the Touchdown Club of Houston’s Pre-Season Team," Humphrey said in the post.
Humphrey is now a University of Florida commit and will begin his final season this fall with the Clear Lake Falcons as an entry on the Touchdown Club of Houston Preseason Team.
Humphrey has visited other programs as well. He's been to Georgia, Texas A&M and "the Swamp," following the lift on the NCAA's COVID-driven dead period, Gators Wire reported earlier this month.
In February, 247Sports reported that Humphrey said he was seriously considering Texas A&M with an eye to working with defensive backs coach TJ Rushing, who had coached Humphrey's older brother at Arizona State. Humphrey also was impressed with the staff in Georgia, according to a UGASport's story.
"The love they were showing was just crazy," Humphrey told UGASports. "Just by far the most love I’ve ever been shown by a whole coaching staff."
Georgia was a memorable trip, Humphrey told Swamp247.
"The trip was amazing just like always," he said. "A trip to Gainesville is always the best. The highlight was whenever I got here with the warm welcome. I talked to Dan Mullen and talked to him about life and stuff. The highlight was Friday Night Lights in the stadium that was live."
In the end, Humphrey went with the University of Florida, which had a verbal commitment with Humphrey by the end of May, according to coverage in the Gainesville Sun at the time. Humphrey's fielded offers from a number of other places, including Louisiana State University, Penn State and the University of Southern California before deciding on Florida.
Humphrey announced his commitment decision on Twitter at the time, posting, "I’m Chillin. #Committed."
