In the first post-COVID-19 summer in which life has returned close to normal, Dallas Christian College (DCC) men’s basketball head coach Dwight Coleman has been out and about.

Coleman’s itinerary reads as such: South Padre Island Clinic in April, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Clinic in May, and most recently, Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Clinic this month.

“Summer 2021 has been one for the ages,” he tweeted on July 6.

At the TAPPS event in San Antonio, Coleman provided insight into the program he oversees at DCC.

The players he coaches are Christ-centered individuals.

“Those are the No. 1 kind of guys we’re looking for – guys that are interested in continuing to grow in the Body of Christ,” Coleman said during a Lone Star Christian Sports Network Facebook Live session. “That’s why we’re here at the TAPPS convention, to build those relationships.”

When crafting the roster, Coleman, who recruited more than half of his players, decided to stay within close to home.

“Being a Texas guy, I’m going to admit that I’m a bit more biased toward Texas guys,” he said.

Coleman was hired by DCC last year.

A lifelong resident of the Metroplex and an alum of Dallas Baptist University, the married father of six built a basketball career that spanned more than a decade and three continents.

The Crusaders, which play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), went 10-8 in their first season with Coleman.
