North Shore head football coach Jon Kay is the Houston nominee for the 2021 Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year.
The honor is named after the legendary coach of the Baltimore Colts, and most notably, the Miami Dolphins.
Shula led the undefeated 1972 Dolphins to a Super Bowl win, remaining the only coach to do so.
Hired in 2014 to helm one of the most high-profile programs in Texas, Kay led the Mustangs to three state championships.
North Shore was a state semifinalist in 2020.
“Congrats to @NSSH_Mustangs HC Jon Kay, who led the Mustangs to the @uiltexas state semis and a 14-1 record,” sports journalist Adam Wexler tweeted on July 6.
High School Football America reported that two finalists will be selected, with a winner to be named this summer.
