Houston City Councilwoman Amy Peck recently announced on Twitter that police have found missing 11-year-old Amayah Estrada.
Last week, the young girl was reported missing in the Spring Branch area, ABC 13 News reported. Before she was found, she was last seen in the 1700 block of Gessner Road on July 7 at around 11:30 p.m.
"Amayah is home safe! Great job, @houstonpolice," Councilwoman Peck wrote in a July 8 Twitter post.
According to The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), FBI data shows that in 2020, there were 365,348 NCIC entries for missing children, a nearly 50,000 decrease from 2019.
Established 36 years ago, the NCMEC’s missing children's hotline, 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678) has received more than 5 million calls and aided in the recovery of more than 348,000 missing children across the nation. The nonprofit has also provided training for more than 379,000 law enforcement, criminal/juvenile justice and healthcare professionals to help in the recovery of missing children.
