University of Texas-bound Luke Harrison was a two-time winner at the 2021 VYPE Awards presented by Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine last month.

Harrison’s former prep program, state champion Lutheran South Academy, was named VYPE’s Private School Baseball Team of the Year while the star pitcher and outfielder himself was bestowed Private School Baseball Player of the Year, Click2Houston reported.

“Congratulations to Luke Harrison for being a finalist for Private School Baseball Player of the Year,” the LSA athletic department’s Twitter account posted on June 25.

A native of Friendswood, the left-handed Harrison was a three-year letter winner under head coach Aaron Schneider.

In addition to three TAPPS state crowns, he consistently earned all-district and all-state honors.

Harrison signed a National Letter of Intent with UT because of its “culture of winning,” Texas Sports reported.

"I chose The University of Texas because it is a premier program with a culture of winning,” he told Texas Sports. “It's an unreal opportunity to not only be a part of one of the most prestigious college baseball programs of all time, but to also attend an outstanding school and receive a class A education."

UT recruiting coordinator Sean Allen described the incoming freshman hurler as a long and lanky LHP that is another very good athlete.

“He has the body that you look for in a young pitcher,” Allen told Texas Sports. “Luke has a lot of upside and already possesses one of the better cutters I have seen in such a young player."
