Already a state champion, former Barbers Hill shortstop Cameron “Cam” Cauley added another honor to a well-accomplished prep career in the form of VYPE’s Public School Baseball Player of the Year.

The prep sports website bestowed the accolade on Cauley, who will head to Lubbock in the fall to attend and play for Texas Tech University, on June 27.

“Winner! @BHVBASEBALL senior & @TTU_Baseball signee @CauleyCam is the VYPE Awards Winner for Public School Baseball POY,” the VYPE Twitter account posted.

Before entering his senior year, Cauley made the decision to eschew football for baseball, a decision that ultimately paid off.

The former all-state wide receiver proved to be an offensive spark plug for the Eagles program, batting an impressive .450 during the inaugural championship season.

Scouts noted that Cauley has the propensity to use his speed to steal bases, having seized the bag 52 times out of 53 attempts in his senior and last season, Baseball Prospect Journal reported.

He joins a Red Raiders team that bowed out of the Super Regional in its own backyard with a 9-0 loss to No. 9 Stanford on June 12.
