State Sen. Carol Alvarado (D-Houston) is celebrating a gymnast from Houston for making it to the Tokyo Olympics on the U.S. team.

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles made it onto the U.S. team at the St. Louis trial, as listed on the Team USA website

"Congratulations to @HoustonTX’s own #SimoneBiles for making it to the #TokyoOlympics women’s gymnastics team! @Simone_Biles, you are an inspiration to many young girls across the world,"Alvarado said in a Twitter post

Biles is from Spring, Texas, and found great success at the Rio Olympics.

In 2016 she won gold medals in team, all-around, vault and floor and a bronze medal on beam, as listed on her biography on the Team USA website

In May, Biles successfully performed the "Yurchenko Double Pike" at a gymnastics competition at the 2021 GK U.S. Classic competition in Indiana, the Houston Daily reported

The Houston Daily article notes that the move was historically only done by men.

After qualifying, Biles thanked her fans for their backing during her pursuit of more medals.

"Such a surreal feeling. I can’t believe I made the Olympic team for a second time and I’m beyond excited to represent Team USA. This is just the beginning of the journey. Thanks for all the endless support and love. I couldn’t ask for better support," Biles posted on Twitter

Biles said she owes much of her success to her parents.

"Appreciation post for my sweet parents. Thanks for making sacrifices since day one so I can live out my dream. But most importantly, thanks for always being there for me through all the highs and lows. You guys are the absolute best. I love y’all," Biles posted on Twitter.
