The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently recognized U.S. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher (D-Houston) for demonstrating qualities of outstanding leadership and governing.
Fletcher was awarded the U.S. Chamber’s annual Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award during an online ceremony June 17. The Lincoln award recognizes congress members based on their co-sponsorship of legislation important to the business community.
"I’m proud to have earned @USChamber’s Abraham Lincoln Leadership for America Award, recognizing members of Congress from both sides of the aisle who demonstrate the bipartisan leadership and constructive governing necessary to move our country forward," Fletcher wrote in a June 25 Twitter post.
To date, this is the third time the congresswoman has been honored by the chamber since assuming office in 2019, according to a news release from the U.S. House of Representatives.
“The Chamber appreciates Congresswoman Fletcher’s support of policies that create jobs and support economic growth,” U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Suzanne Clark said in a statement.
Criteria for the award is based on the number of times a congress member took Chamber of Commerce recommended actions by cosponsoring certain bills and refraining from cosponsoring others. Based on this methodology, Fletcher earned a 100% rating from the Chamber of Commerce.
Last year, Fletcher also received the Spirit of Enterprise Award, which honors the members of Congress who support “pro-business legislation, bipartisan leadership and constructive governing.”
“Our community in Houston thrives on partnership, and I have been glad to partner with business leaders across our community, and with my colleagues across the aisle in Congress, to advance pro-growth policies that benefit those who live and work in our community,” Fletcher said when she received the award. “I am honored to receive the Spirit of Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in recognition of these efforts, and I will continue to work across the aisle to champion policies that create good jobs, promote entrepreneurship and grow our economy.”
Fletcher was among the bipartisan group of Texas lawmakers who sought action in response to the Texas General Land Office denying Hurricane Harvey funding for Houston and Harris County.
