The Houston Memorial girls’ doubles team capped a perfect season by rallying past Round Lake’s Ramitha Irrinki and DeCora Antoine 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-3 to earn the UIL 6A state doubles title.

“This just in, Drew Morris and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic are our Texas UIL 6A Girls State Doubles Champions,” the school posted on its Twitter page.

Playing on the big stage comes as nothing new for Houston Memorial, which back in 2019 earned a spot in the state tournament for the 11th straight season.

In earning their latest trip, Memorial battled the elements as well as their opponent, as their Region 111-6A title battle against Seven Lakes was delayed several times because of bitter cold.

Memorial coach Budd Booth left no doubt he’s proud of the program the school has been able to build.

“I think it is a dynasty,” he previously told Vype.com. “I just think the kids have experience from the past and they are up for it. For these big matches, they really play well. They pick up their games and they play well. They work hard all year and they prepare for this. I’m proud of them, the entire team.”

Morris has signed on to play collegiately at SMU.
