Houston Memorial High recently finished second in the 6A state golf championship, earning the Mustangs their best tournament showing in school history.

In what was the school’s first visit to the state championship in at least four years, Jeff Zatorski led the way for the Mustangs with a two-day score of 143. Tyler Gardner (146) and David Martinez (147) weren’t far behind.

“I imagine the Mustangs banquet was a little more lit with the team coming off a 2nd place finish at the state tournament,” Examiner Newspapers sportswriter Elliot Lappin posted on his Twitter page.

In their season to remember, Houston Memorial also won district and regional titles.

“This was possible because of everyone on the team and all of the guys constantly pushing the ones in front of them to be better,” the school posted on its website. “What a special group of young men and an amazing accomplishment.”

According to the Houston Chronicle, Zatorski was later named to the Houston Area Golf Coaches Association All-Area team while Gardner was named to the third team.
