The nation’s top high school baseball program that calls northwest Galveston County home continues its head-turning quest for a state title.

The Friendswood Mustangs stampeded to the Class 5A regional final by defeating College Station 10-2 to take Game 3 of the semifinal series.

Most notable about the victory was the program’s seniors missing their own graduation ceremony to take care of business on the diamond, receiving their diplomas before the game, Fox 26’s Mark Berman tweeted on May 29.

"Seniors from the Friendswood Mustangs(@fhsballplayers), No. 1-ranked team in the nation, missed graduation. So they got their diplomas before they crushed College Station 10-2 to win their Region 3, 5A semis 2games to 1, which includes tons of offense and a terrific play by SS @izaacpacheco1," Berman posted.

Friendswood put on a scoring clinic, with Mustangs catcher Dylan Maxcey knocking in two first-inning runs and two late-game runs.

Before bowing out, College Station did what no other team could this year: Hand Friendswood a loss in Game 2.
