For the first time since the Reagan administration, the Barbers Hill Eagles baseball team will compete in a regional final following a Class 5A Region 3 semifinal series clinching win over Lake Creek.

The program joins Barbers Hill’s softball team in the Eagles’ postseason dominance of Lake Creek. The girls have earned a trip to state by dispatching the Lions.

“Congrats to our Eagles!! Moving on–after beating Lake Creek, 4-0!!! One step closer to state,” the school’s booster club tweeted on May 27.

Whether it was Cameron Cauley’s triple at his first at-bat or Barbers Hill’s defensive prowess, the Eagles had its way with Lake Creek in Game 2.

The Lions committed three costly errors to help the Eagles’ cause.

Barbers Hill pitcher Maddox Malone chipped in a complete game, fanning five Lions.

The Lions have five regional semifinal trips to their name in the last decade.

Up next for Barbers Hill is a formidable Friendswood team with just one loss.
