HISD middle schoolers experience cultural immersion through Tokyo trip

As the school year drew to a close, some HISD middle school students eagerly anticipated a unique opportunity provided by the Dyad Travel program. This initiative enabled students from NES campuses to embark on a five-day trip to Tokyo, Japan. The program is designed to expose students to diverse experiences, aligning with the Dyad model implemented in NES schools.

Amtrak faces new legislation demanding transparency akin to federal agencies

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Chairman Troy E. Nehls (R-TX-22) of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials has introduced The Amtrak Transparency and Accountability for Passengers and Taxpayer Act. This legislation aims to subject Amtrak to the same requirements as other federal agencies under the Government in the Sunshine Act.

Discovery links gene absence to spongy heart disease

While the heart is developing in utero, certain heart diseases like left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC), also known as spongy heart, can emerge. A University of Houston pharmacology researcher has reported on how cells and molecules act during early heart formation and what might cause LVNC. This type of cardiomyopathy often necessitates heart transplants for patients.


HISD senior earns full scholarship to prestigious Swarthmore College

Troy Jackson, a senior at HISD’s Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy, has been awarded a full academic scholarship to Swarthmore College. Jackson credits his success to hard work, perseverance, and the guidance of trusted adults.


Mineral Wells earns 'Music Friendly' status from Texas Governor

Governor Greg Abbott announced today that the City of Mineral Wells has been designated as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office (TMO) after completing a multi-step certification process. The Music Friendly Texas program, introduced by TMO in 2016, aims to foster music business-related economic development and job creation in Texas cities and communities.
