Texas Governor Greg Abbott has amended and renewed a disaster proclamation related to ongoing fire weather conditions across numerous counties in the state. The original proclamation was issued on August 10, 2025, and has since been updated as hazardous fire weather persists.
According to the Texas Division of Emergency Management, these elevated fire risks continue to threaten several areas in Texas. In response, Governor Abbott has extended the disaster declaration for a large number of counties, including Andrews, Bexar, El Paso, Travis, and Webb among others.
Governor Abbott stated: "I do hereby amend and renew the aforementioned proclamation and declare a disaster in Andrews, Aransas, Archer, Armstrong, Atascosa...and Zavala Counties."
The renewed order authorizes all available resources from state government and political subdivisions to address the situation. It also allows for suspension of certain regulatory statutes or rules that could hinder emergency response efforts during this period. "Any regulatory statute prescribing the procedures for conduct of state business or any order or rule of a state agency that would in any way prevent, hinder, or delay necessary action in coping with this disaster shall be suspended upon written approval of the Office of the Governor," said Abbott.
Further provisions permit agencies to bypass standard contracting or procurement requirements if such measures would impede emergency actions needed to protect life or property.
Copies of the proclamation have been filed with relevant authorities as required by law.
