Governor Greg Abbott has instructed the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to begin criminal investigations into the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

“The goal is to identify, disrupt, and eradicate terrorist organizations engaged in criminal activities in Texas," Governor Abbott stated. “We will target threats of violence, intimidation, and harassment of our citizens. We will also focus on individuals or groups who unlawfully impose Sharia law—which violates the Texas Constitution and state statutes."

The DPS Special Agents, working with local and federal law enforcement through FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces across Texas, are tasked with gathering intelligence and launching investigations into possible breaches of state and federal laws. The department’s efforts are aimed at preventing any group from engaging in illegal activity or promoting extremist Islamic radicalism that contravenes Texas law.

Governor Abbott’s recent actions include designating both the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR as foreign terrorist organizations. He has also called for investigations into Sharia courts operating within the state.
