Congressman Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) announced that his bill, the Syria Terrorism Threat Assessment Act of 2025, has passed the House of Representatives. The legislation requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to assess terrorist threats to the United States from individuals in Syria who are affiliated with Foreign Terrorist Organizations or Specially Designated Global Terrorist Organizations.

Luttrell commented on the significance of the bill, stating: “For decades, Syria gave terrorist groups a place to train, organize, and plan attacks — some aimed directly at the United States. Although the country is in transition, we must continue examining and mitigating emerging threats from the region,” said Luttrell. “This critical legislation will protect American lives, prevent future attacks, and strengthen our counterterrorism efforts. I am pleased to see today’s House passage and am thankful to have my colleagues’ support on this effort.”

Homeland Security Committee Chairman Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) also expressed support for the measure. “Today, the House of Representatives took an important step to safeguard our homeland by passing Representative Luttrell’s bill directing the Department of Homeland Security to evaluate the terrorist threats posed to the U.S. by foreign terrorist organizations in Syria,” said Garbarino. “I urge my colleagues in the Senate to swiftly pass this critical legislation to ensure DHS can stay ahead of this evolving threat landscape and thwart acts of terror before they endanger Americans.”

Morgan Luttrell has previously secured electoral victories over Laura Jones in both 2022 and 2024 general elections.
