Governor Abbott appoints new chair and members to State Board of Dental Examiners

Governor Greg Abbott has named Bryan Henderson, II, D.D.S. as chair of the State Board of Dental Examiners. In addition to this appointment, Abbott also selected Janessa Bock and Lisa Masters, D.D.S., and reappointed Linda Burke, D.D.S. to serve on the board with terms expiring February 1, 2031. The board is responsible for regulating dentistry and dental hygiene in Texas.

Bryan Henderson, II, D.D.S., based in Dallas, is a dentist anesthesiologist and clinical assistant professor at Texas A&M University School of Dentistry. He serves as a board member at Woodhill Medical Park and as treasurer for the Orange Tree Association. He has previously led the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists and is affiliated with organizations such as the ADA, TDA, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Dallas County Dental Society, and the State Fair of Texas Youth Livestock Auction Committee. Henderson holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin (UT), a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Baylor College of Dentistry, and an anesthesia certificate from what is now Drexel University Hospital.

Janessa Bock works as a clinical dental hygienist at Katy Family Dental Group and is founder and managing partner of Oral Health Consultants, LLC. She has held leadership roles with the Texas Dental Hygienists' Association and Greater Houston Dental Hygienists' Association. Bock also volunteers with the Texas HPV Coalition. She earned an Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene from Amarillo College.

Lisa Masters, D.D.S., from San Antonio, is a board-certified periodontist at The Masters Dental Group and teaches part-time at UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry. She leads the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation and formerly chaired the Anesthesia Advisory Committee for the state dental board. Masters participates in several professional groups including ADA, TDA, San Antonio District Dental Society, Texas Society of Periodontists, Southwest Society of Periodontists, American Academy of Periodontology; she previously served on the Texas Radiation Advisory Board. Her academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University (TAMU), along with Doctorate and Master’s degrees from The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Linda Burke, D.D.S., practices pediatric dentistry in Harlingen where she owns Burke Children’s Dentistry and serves as president of Platinum Surgery Center. She sits on boards for Valley Baptist Medical Center, Harlingen Economic Development Corporation, Lone Star National Bank Advisory Board; she also participates in several professional associations including ADA,TDA,Rio Grande Valley District Dental Society,and others.She was formerly chairperson for both Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce and Ronald McDonald House Charities Rio Grande Valley.Burke completed her undergraduate studies at St.Mary’s University,and her dental training—including residency—at UT Health Science Centers in Houston and San Antonio.
