Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Stacy Hock as chair and Welcome Wilson, Jr. as vice chair of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Their terms will last at the Governor's discretion. The THECB is responsible for providing leadership and coordination across Texas' higher education system.
Stacy Hock, based in Austin, is a private investor and philanthropist with prior senior management experience at IBM. She has been serving as vice-chair of the THECB since May 2024. Hock currently sits on the boards of Atlas Energy Services, Texas Public Policy Foundation, and the American Federation of Children. Her previous board roles include Brigham Minerals, Inc., Aminex Therapeutics, City Harvest, and The Bowery Mission. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin.
Welcome Wilson, Jr., from Houston, serves as president and CEO of Welcome Group, LLC. He is also a joint venture partner in Kingham Dalton Wilson Ltd., and executive vice president of River Oaks Financial Group. Wilson has been a member of the THECB since March 2018. His other roles include serving on the board of the Texas Higher Education Foundation and membership in organizations such as the National Association of Industrial Office Properties. He is chairman or interim chairman for several groups including Alamo Trust, Inc., Southwest Houston Redevelopment Authority, Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone 20, and Remember the Alamo Foundation.
Wilson’s involvement extends to being a member and former chair of the Houston Region Business Coalition and holding board positions with Trellis Company, Trellis Foundation, Texas Business Hall of Fame, Greater Houston Partnership, and Friends of the Texas Historical Commission. He previously served as vice chairman for the University of Houston System Board of Regents and held leadership roles with Kinkaid School Alumni Association and Houston Food Bank. Wilson attended the University of Denver.
