More than $10.9 million in grants have been awarded to 37 organizations serving veterans and their families across North Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to an announcement by Governor Greg Abbott. The funds are part of the Texas Veterans Commission’s (TVC) Grants Across Texas program and will support services for over 4,500 veterans across 32 counties.

"Texas is grateful for the brave men and women who selflessly served our country in the greatest military in the world,” said Governor Abbott. “The more than $10.9 million in grant funding will provide significant support and services to our veterans and their families in North Texas and Dallas-Fort Worth, including clinical counseling, service dog programs, and financial assistance. Texas will always support those who bravely put their lives on the line to defend our nation and our freedom.”

"I want to sincerely thank each of our award recipients for serving our veterans,” said TVC Commission Secretary and Marine veteran Chuck Wright. “Your organizations are recognized for making a difference in the lives of those who served. The North Texas and DFW area has a strong military community, and it is home to many veterans. It’s great seeing the community give back to those who served."

Secretary Wright presented the grants at a ceremony held at Denton County Courthouse.

The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants will be used for various services including clinical counseling, service dog programs, financial aid, skill-based training, peer support, homeless veteran support, housing assistance, small business support for veterans, therapy programs, family support services, transportation help, legal aid, home modification projects, rental assistance, mortgage assistance, referral services, and mental health care.

Organizations receiving funding include Adaptive Training Foundation ($345,000), Baylor Research Institute ($500,000), Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star ($100,000), Canine Companions for Independence ($350,000), City of Arlington (two grants totaling $700,000), City of Dallas ($230,000 total), City of Fort Worth ($650,000 total), Collin County ($670,000 total), Garland Area Habitat for Humanity ($500,000), Patriot PAWS Service Dogs ($500,000), Meals On Wheels Of Tarrant County ($450,000 total), among others.

Earlier this year in May 2025 Governor Abbott announced a record-breaking $46.3 million distributed through over 200 grants to 175 organizations statewide—an effort projected to benefit nearly 40,000 veterans as well as their dependents and surviving spouses.

Since its inception in 2009 through the current grant cycle covering 2025-2026 more than $359 million has been awarded via over 1,600 FVA grants across Texas.

Funds supporting these grants are generated mainly through proceeds from designated Texas Lottery games. Additional donations can be made when Texans register vehicles or purchase hunting or fishing licenses.
