Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Colonel Kirk Peterson (Ret.) to the Texas Military Preparedness Commission. Peterson's term will run until February 1, 2031. The Commission works to maintain and grow military missions, assets, and installations in Texas. It also encourages defense-related businesses to expand or move their operations into the state.

Colonel Peterson is based in Wichita Falls and is a partner at the Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce. He previously served as deputy director of logistics, engineering, and force protection at Headquarters Air Education and Training Command at Randolph Air Force Base. He is affiliated with several organizations, including the Logistics Officer Association, Military Officers Association of America, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Peterson retired from the United States Air Force after 30 years of service. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Ohio University and a master's degree in Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
