Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Matthew Goldwater and reappointed Samuel Brown and Dr. Hammad Qureshi to the Texas Board of Respiratory Care, with their terms set to expire on February 1, 2031. The Board is responsible for advising the Texas Medical Board, establishing certification and permitting programs for respiratory therapists, setting minimum qualifications for practitioners, determining standards of conduct, and identifying grounds for disciplinary actions.
Matthew Goldwater, based in Georgetown, serves as a senior sales executive for ventilation at Dräger. He is affiliated with the American Association for Respiratory Care and also coaches youth baseball in Georgetown. Goldwater holds a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy from Texas State University and an MBA from The University of Texas at Tyler.
Samuel Brown from Marshall works as assistant IT manager and network administrator at Louis A. Williams & Associates. His previous roles include serving as a computer lab technician at East Texas Baptist University (ETBU). Brown has experience coaching little league basketball and football through i20 Sports and the Boys and Girls Club of America. He is also an ordained minister and teaches Teen Ministry at Church On Purpose. Brown earned his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from ETBU and a Master’s degree in Information Systems from Tarleton State University.
Dr. Hammad Qureshi of Tomball is triple board-certified in Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, and Internal Medicine. He works with the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Methodist Hospital The Woodlands and holds an academic appointment at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Qureshi completed his pre-medical studies at Government College University Lahore before earning his MBBS from King Edward Medical College. His postgraduate training includes an internal medicine residency at the University of West Virginia followed by a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
