Texas Governor Greg Abbott met with U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon to discuss recent legislative actions impacting education in the state. The meeting focused on outcomes from the 89th legislative session, which included new initiatives and funding for Texas schools.

Governor Abbott outlined recent measures intended to improve educational opportunities for parents, students, and educators in Texas. He pointed to $8.5 billion allocated in new funding for public education and a $3.5 billion investment aimed at raising teacher pay. Abbott also referenced the passage of what he called “the nation’s largest day-one school choice program,” designed to give families more options when choosing educational pathways for their children.

Secretary McMahon shared her impressions from a visit to the Alpha School's Austin campus, where she met with graduates now attending college. She noted the use of artificial intelligence by Texas schools as an innovative tool that helps students learn how to ask questions that deepen their understanding of academic material.

Additional photos from the meeting are expected to be released when available.
