Brays Oaks Management District Business & Economic Development Committee met Aug. 6.

The Brays Oaks Management District Business and Economic Development Committee held a meeting via Zoom video conference on August 06, 2025, at 10:00 am.

District Board and Committee members present: Sheri Cortez, Ralph Rieger, Sylvia Rivas, Marsha Fisk, Cindy Chapman

Staff members present: Josh Hawes, Cosme Garcia

Public present: Brenda Jackson

Committee Chair Sheri Cortez called the meeting to order at 10:01 AM, and the committee meeting adjourned at 10:37 AM.

THE COMMITTEE CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING:

a. Public comments were not received.

3. Minutes of 05/07/25 B&ED Committee Meeting

a. Committee meeting minutes submitted for reference.

4. District Updates & Recommendations

a. Development Properties

i. Executive Director Hawes gave an update on the food truck park.

ii. Director Chapman mentioned that a nightclub has opened on S. Post Oak.

iii. Director Cortez advised that if a chief of police request is made by the community HPD may work on the issue faster.

iv. Executive Director Hawes advised staff will pass along the location to HCAO for investigation.

v. Director Rivas advised that construction has stalled at a church on S. Braeswood.

1. Director of Services Garcia advised that the district did reach out and they are expanding the church, however, they are having trouble receiving their permit from CenterPoint. The District will make contact with the owners.

b. Branding

i. SNR Creative

1. Executive Director Hawes advised that SNR has provided the brochure file. Staff will request cost to print an initial 200 copies.

2. Executive Director Hawes advised that SNR has delivered all outstanding collateral.

3. Executive Director Hawes advised that staff will acquire list of top 40 assessment payers to share new collateral with.

c. Permits & Platting

1. Permits

a. Executive Director Hawes advised of a bakery coming in at 11382 Fondren Rd.

2. Platting

a. Executive Director Hawes advised of a residential development at Dorrance St. and Bedford St. Project numbers are 2025-1134 and 2024-2372.

d. METRO

i. Executive Director Hawes advised he will reach out to Wilfredo regarding PnR.

e. Discuss Economic Development Initiatives

i. Executive Director Hawes plans to have a separate meeting with cmte. chair to discuss ideas.

f. Discuss Business Improvement Grants

i. The district has not received any new applications. Executive Director Hawes advised the district may have to do personalized outreach. Executive Director asked the committee to please recommend businesses for the BIG program.

ii. Cmte. Chair advised that even a letter may be appropriate to advise owners of the program.

iii. Director Chapman mentioned a new gym is coming in at Chimney Rock and was wondering if they would qualify for the BIG. Executive Director Hawes advised that tenants may apply with permission from the property owner.
