Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has received federal approval to extend the deadline for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) applications. This extension relates to the severe flooding that took place over the Fourth of July weekend. Eligible individuals now have until September 29, 2025, to apply for this assistance.

"Texans who qualify for Disaster Unemployment Assistance will now have until September 29 to apply," said Governor Abbott. "By extending the Disaster Unemployment Assistance deadline, more hardworking Texans will have the resources and support they need to rebuild. Texas remains resolute in support of these communities as they work to heal and recover."

The extension applies to workers and self-employed people in Burnet, Kerr, Guadalupe, Kimble, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties who are unable to work because of damage from storms and flooding under a Presidential Disaster Declaration.

Affected individuals can apply online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631. Applications must be submitted by September 29, 2025.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance is designed for those who have used all regular unemployment benefits or do not qualify for them. It is also available to those whose primary income was affected by disaster-related damage or destruction at their workplace or self-employment location. Additional eligibility includes being unable to work due to injury from the disaster, becoming a household’s main provider after a death caused by the disaster, or being unable to reach a job site because travel through the affected area is prevented by disaster conditions.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management continues to encourage residents and business owners to report property damage using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). These reports help emergency officials determine eligibility for federal aid such as DUA.
