Governor Greg Abbott has sent a message to the Texas Legislature updating the language of two items on the agenda for Special Session #2. The changes focus on measures intended to protect law enforcement officers and ensure election integrity.
According to Governor Abbott, the updated agenda includes legislation designed to shield law enforcement officers from public disclosure of unsubstantiated complaints and other information contained in agency files. Additionally, there is legislation concerning election procedures, specifically addressing how voter registrations are handled when an individual’s residence address is not current and clarifying the immediate effect of a voter’s registration after certain change of address notices are received by registrars.
"Legislation that protects law enforcement officers from public disclosure of unsubstantiated complaints and other information maintained in law enforcement agency files," stated Governor Abbott.
"Legislation relating to election procedures regarding accepting a voter with a residence address that is not current and the immediate effect of a voter’s registration after the registrar’s receipt of certain change of address notices," Governor Abbott added.
These agenda updates come as part of ongoing efforts during the special legislative session to address concerns related to public safety and election administration in Texas.
