Governor Greg Abbott released a statement after the Texas House of Representatives passed House Bill 4. The bill concerns congressional district boundaries in Texas.
“I congratulate Speaker Burrows and the Republican members of the Texas House of Representatives for passing congressional districts that better reflect the actual votes of Texans. While Democrats shirked their duty, in futility, and ran away to other states, Republicans stayed the course, stayed at work and stayed true to Texas. I will sign this bill once it passes the Senate and gets to my desk,” Abbott said.
The governor’s remarks highlight partisan differences during the legislative process. He commended Republican lawmakers for their actions while criticizing Democratic representatives who left the state during deliberations.
The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration before potentially reaching Governor Abbott’s desk for signature.
