Congressman Wesley Hunt, together with Congressmen Pfluger, Weber, and Crenshaw, has called on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to quickly approve permits for trains 1-5 of the Rio Grande LNG Project. The lawmakers sent a letter urging the commission to move forward with authorization.

The Rio Grande LNG Project has faced various permitting and regulatory challenges. Supporters argue that it could create thousands of jobs and bring billions in economic investment to Texas.

In March, Rep. Hunt introduced legislation designed to reduce legal uncertainty for liquefied natural gas (LNG) development. The bill would ensure that lawsuits related to environmental reviews under the Natural Gas Act or the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) would not overturn permits or approvals granted to qualifying energy facilities.

Rep. Hunt is known for his focus on energy policy in Congress. He has represented Texas’s 38th District since 2023 and previously won elections in 2022 against Duncan Klussmann and in 2024 against Melissa McDonough.

“LNG is the biggest green initiative on planet earth that also provides huge economic benefits to the United States," Hunt said. "Despite opposition from climate extremists, I am committed to correcting the harmful impacts of the Biden administration's energy policies. I encourage FERC to support American energy development by reauthorizing the Rio Grande LNG Project, which would create thousands of jobs in Texas, attract billions in investments, and reduce energy costs for hardworking Americans."

Hunt was born in Houston in 1981 and currently resides there.
