Governor Greg Abbott participated in a check presentation event with the Vaqueros del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund, distributing $25,000 checks to families affected by recent floods in the Hill Country. The relief funds originate from the “Strait to the Heart” benefit concert, which was organized last month by musician George Strait and Estancia Estates Founder Tom Cusick. The concert raised over $6 million for Texans impacted by severe flooding.
“We as a State are working tirelessly to make sure that the recovery process is as easy and effective as possible,” said Governor Abbott. “If you have a need in your area, let us know. There are a lot of people here to assist you with those needs. These checks will help you piece your lives back together, and there’s more help on the way.”
During the event, Governor Abbott met with residents whose homes had been damaged or destroyed by floodwaters and offered reassurance that state support would continue throughout their recovery.
Other officials present included Representative Wes Virdell, Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, and Tom Cusick.
The fundraising effort from last month’s concert was part of broader initiatives to provide assistance following significant storm damage in the region.
