Governor Greg Abbott announced an extension for SNAP replacement benefits following severe flooding in Texas. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) obtained federal approval to extend the application period for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients until August 18. This applies to those who lost food due to the floods, with new approvals for Hamilton, Lampasas, Maverick, Sutton, and Uvalde counties.
"The State of Texas continues to support Texans impacted by the recent catastrophic flooding so they can care for themselves and their families," said Governor Abbott. "SNAP recipients in 26 counties now can apply for food replacement benefits through August 18. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that impacted Texans have everything they need to rebuild and recover."
Molly Regan, HHSC Deputy Executive Commissioner of Access and Eligibility Services, added: "During these stressful times, I am thankful we can extend support. Helping families have access to the food they need can bring some relief as they continue to rebuild."
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Nutrition Service had previously approved replacement benefits for other affected counties including Bandera, Bexar, Burnet, Caldwell, Coke, Comal, Concho, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Llano, Mason McCulloch Menard Reeves San Saba Tom Green Travis Williamson.
SNAP recipients are advised to request replacement food benefits by calling 2-1-1 or downloading Form H1855 from the HHSC website. Hot foods purchases using Lone Star Cards remain available in 33 counties until August 14 without requiring any action from SNAP recipients.
Texans affected by disasters are encouraged to visit the HHSC Receiving Disaster Assistance webpage or dial 2-1-1 for local resources.
