Governor Greg Abbott has instructed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to seek federal disaster assistance for Hamilton and Travis counties. This request follows severe flooding in these areas, prompting a need for their inclusion in President Donald J. Trump’s Major Disaster Declaration.

“Texas continues working to help every community rebuild and recover from these devastating and deadly floods,” stated Governor Abbott. “That’s why I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to request Hamilton and Travis counties be added to the federal disaster declaration. We won’t stop until every impacted community gets the support they need.”

Damage assessments indicate that both Hamilton and Travis counties meet the Federal Emergency Management Agency's criteria for Public Assistance, which covers emergency work and repairs or replacements of damaged facilities. Additional requests may follow as more information becomes available.

Governor Abbott is actively providing resources to local officials dealing with flooding challenges. His actions include meeting with affected residents and first responders in San Angelo, updating disaster declarations, announcing SNAP hot food eligibility for 26 additional counties, surveying flood damage with General Steven Nordhaus, requesting further county additions to the Major Disaster Declaration, allocating funds through various programs, touring flood-affected areas like Leander, launching emotional support lines, directing ongoing response efforts, announcing unemployment assistance related to flooding impacts, increasing readiness levels at the State Operations Center, and deploying state emergency resources.
