Governor Greg Abbott has announced that Texas leads the United States in annual job creation, with an increase of 198,300 nonfarm jobs over the past year. This development is based on June data, which also shows record numbers for both employment and the labor force in Texas.
“Thanks to the strength of the Texas economy, more Texans are working than ever before,” Governor Abbott stated. He acknowledged the recent challenges faced by Texans due to disasters and expressed solidarity with affected communities as they work towards recovery.
The latest employment figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Texas Workforce Commission indicate that Texas has achieved a new high in its labor force size, totaling 15,850,100 individuals. Additionally, a record number of 15,210,500 Texans are employed, including those who are self-employed. The state's unemployment rate decreased to 4.0% in June.
Texas added more nonfarm jobs than any other state from June 2024 to June 2025 and experienced a faster annual growth rate compared to the national average.
In response to recent flooding disasters, Governor Abbott is ensuring resources are available for those most affected. Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) is accessible for individuals in designated disaster areas through online applications or by contacting the Texas Workforce Commission at (800) 939-6631 during business hours. Applications must be submitted by September 4, 2025.
