Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to request federal disaster assistance for five additional counties following severe flooding in Texas. The counties affected are Burnet, Llano, Mason, McCulloch, and Tom Green.

"Texas continues to rebuild and recover following recent catastrophic flooding," Governor Abbott stated. "Today, I requested that additional counties be added to President Trump's Major Disaster Declaration to ensure affected communities receive the assistance needed to respond and move forward. We will help all of our communities through the recovery process."

The damage assessments in these counties surpass federal criteria for FEMA’s Public Assistance program. This program provides support for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities. More counties may be added as new information becomes available.

Governor Abbott has taken several steps to aid local officials responding to the flooding. These actions include visiting with impacted Texans alongside President Trump in Kerrville, launching a new emotional support line for those affected by the flooding, obtaining approval for federal disaster assistance for impacted communities, and directing ongoing flood response and recovery efforts.

Other measures include announcing disaster unemployment assistance due to flood impacts, surveying flood damage in affected areas, updating Texans on response efforts, increasing readiness levels at the State Operations Center, activating state emergency resources ahead of expected rainfall and flash floods in West and Central Texas.
