Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is now accepting Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) applications for Burnet, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis, and Williamson counties. This follows severe storms and flooding in Texas and is part of President Donald J. Trump's Major Disaster Declaration. Workers and self-employed individuals affected by the weather in these areas may be eligible for DUA benefits.
"Workers across the Hill Country continue to face hardship after the devastating flooding that hit communities last week," said Governor Abbott. "Texas stands with these communities as they work to heal and recover. With more counties eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance, more hardworking Texans will have the resources and support they need to move forward."
Affected individuals can apply for benefits online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631 between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Applications must be submitted by September 4, 2025.
Additional counties might be added to President Trump's disaster declaration based on ongoing reviews of damage information reported by Texans through the Texas Division of Emergency Management's Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). Impacted Texans are encouraged to submit damage information when it is safe to do so via damage.tdem.texas.gov.
DUA is available for those who have used all regular unemployment benefits or do not qualify for them, worked or were self-employed in the disaster area, can no longer work due to physical damage from the disaster, among other criteria.
All required documentation must be submitted within 21 days from filing a DUA application. Documentation includes proof of employment at the time of the disaster. If not provided by this deadline, TWC will stop DUA payments, requiring repayment of any received benefits.
Proof of employment can be submitted using TWC’s online UI Submission Portal or by fax or mail:
